ok so some of you have had a chance to read part of this, so I thought if you didnt want a mibba account I would put it on here for ya'll to read!

Is it love? I don't think so. Why do others never notice my obvious hatred for the boy. Is it obvious? Maybe I should change that.
"Hey Beccs, What's up? You look ticked?" "Nice observation Einstein . . ." "Awwwww common just cause your mad at Max doesn't mean you have to be mad at me." I stopped and the steam that had been building blew out. "how could you tell?" " Best friends are like that . . " "FINE! that is a good now that you know, go tell the kids at lunch about the fight so they can see Max get beat up by a girl, maybe that will ruin his social life." I grind my teeth in a smirk at the idea and crumple my fist ready to punch if he goes at me first.I walk to the one place that no camera can see and one place that no teacher looks and the one place I know Max would be, in the corner between the cafeteria and the gym, outside.Tyler yells after me something, but I can't hear anything, my thoughts weren't clear.
I turn out through the door and there he is, with his so called friends, more like minions if you ask me. I get I get with in 5 feet and he spots me. "Becca my girl, how are you?" I come with in hitting range and slap him across the face, this could start a fight, but I wouldn't have thrown the first punch. He quickly rebounded as expected by grabbing my hand and twisting it behind my back pulling me in in the process. "And what was that for?" "This!" I punched him in the gut, apparently I was going to have to start this fight. He recoiled and I saw figures around us, and got distracted. He rebounded faster than I anticipated. He grabbed my hands behind my back in a half embrace which reminded me of a straight jacket. I was recalculating my possible escape when he whispered in my ear, "Did you think making me look bad was going to be easy?" I sat thinking for a while his tall perfect body made it hard to out muscle him, he was tall, to tall to head but in the chin and break a jaw, I was trapped and his green eyes knew it. I heard the smirk in his voice as he laughed. I wanted to pull out that sculpted black hair. I finally got a thought and did the exact opposite of what I had been doing I leaned into him with all my might as I dug my nails in to his skin.

Max recoiled letting me go and fell. He gave me a sickly loving and supposedly innocent look that only I could see through and said two little words "But why?". I balled up my hands in to fists and punched him in the nose, I heard a crunch and knew I was done. Too late I realized that no one would be on my side.
I sat in the principal's office next to Max, "You Know dear, I could say I fell on my face." "One, I am not your dear. Two, no one would believe that the guys rugby star would, just trip and break his nose. Three, NO!" I half regretted the excuse that I could have had so I wouldn't get in trouble. I felt confused, did I actually feel what I thought I did? did i actually feel something for him? Him? Mr. Morre walked in, "So, you two have a problem I see." Max's eyes started brusing and his nose had almost finished bleeding. "Just a tiff." came the voice cool in the middle of a heated lie. I glared at him out of the corner of my eye because I knew if I said any thing I wouldn't be able to get out of this punishment. "So, Ms. Night will you and Mr. Farmington have a problem getting along?" "Actually, " Max cut in "Just before you came in , Mr. Morre, she had just asked me if I wanted to go to prom. Myself being caught up in the . . moment, " he motioned to his face "I said no, but I have reconsidered, yes Becca I will go with you." He winked at me with his cocky smile. To the boys surprise I smiled sweetly and said "Oh, that is great thank you so much!" regaining his feet faster and seeing our eyes green locked on blue Mr. Morre left the room whistling a happy tune. the door shut. the smile slid off my face like sugar in the rain. "Your a dead man Max Farmington." "Oh, but this way you can't hurt me and you have to at least pretend to like me." He walked out smirk and all.

I went to science class, my last class of the day. thankfully Tyler was in this class and I could recap what had happened. I slid into me seat next to Tyler in the furthest back lab. "Hey, you ok? I heard a lot of weird rumors between lunch and now." "Well, actually," I explained he entire story most of the time he responded as if this happened everyday with me,until I got to the part about prom. His jaw dropped. "You what?!?!" he said this so loud that over the simultaneous bangs in the room u could hear him. Everyone looked at us 5then went back to work. Tyler got quieter, "What? your going to prom with Max?" his voice had accelerated to a point where I thought he would shout again. I touched his arm to quiet him down the way a mother would, but people heard. All the guys in the room looked at me with astonishment, all the girls even the ones with boyfriends, glared at me. Tyler must have had some sympathy for what he had done, so he hit his pencil on the floor and said, "Hey Becca c-could u get that?" "Sure." and I immediately ducked my burning face under the table letting Mrs. Slug continue class.
I was glad that was sixth period, everyone in the high school was either astonished at me or glaring at me. I walked home to my shared apartment, with Tyler. We avoided the subject of Max .We have been friends since preschool, the first day of school we met and became best friends. I never got along with girls much and the guys were mostly okay. As I grew up I knew every guy on the football team and I was always their girl advice center, even if it wasn't exactly correct it was closer than they were able to get. Our families moved Tyler's to Nebraska, and mine to Maine. This was at the beginning of this year so with two years left of high school, our parents let us rent an apartment for the both of us to share.We g got in the building and climbed the five flights of stairs we do everyday.
I was the cook I was good at cooking and I was horrible with machines, so I let Tyler work the dish eater and clean up after the meal. I made spaghetti. Our favorite.We saw each other everyday almost all day, I was so surprised that we never ran out of things to talk about. "Hey, that horror flick you wanted to see came out on DVD last week, do you want to go rent it?" We both know I'm only doing this to throw the conversation way far away from Max.

"Really, bad subject change Beccs, it is called Prom Night, got something on your brain pick it off don't avoid it." Tyler always came up with the weirdest, and probably worst sayings, I laughed anyway, "Yeah I guess, I just can't stand him, I can't believe that I got sucked into going to the prom with Max." I spat out his name like it was mud. It was his turn to laugh "Ok, so what are you going to do about it?" "Well, If I go with him I'll look like the side on pizza day," this being the best food of the week I would look really bad next to him bumping him up in this world. "Or, I could refuse his offer, go with a more evenly matched date," I winked at Tyler, he gave me a skeptical eye then cut me off "Who is to say i don't already have a date?" "Really who?" I said in a teasing voice. "Jessica" I paused then changed my tactic " Well, then I need to embarrass my self in front of the entire school, what joy!" I said the last part with a laugh, "Maybe I know someone who could make you look like more than a trillion bucks." I was astonished and look at Tyler like he was crazy, "My sister wants to come visit us, she just got her masters in beauty and cosmetics." "No way, Terry?" "The one and only!" "wow I would look like more than a trillion bucks." we both seemed to imagine that, then I turned on the evening news.
I went t bed around 11 like usual after finishing some trig homework and watering the plants. Tyler forgot his Trig book and stole mine after I had attempted to fall asleep waking me up , but I eventually fell asleep. I hit the snooze alarm 5 times. I felt horrible, so I told Tyler that i was going to take the car to the doctors and come to school later, being in a small town has it's advantages, you know everyone so our attendance keeper Josie, would let me in late without parent approval because she knew they were far away.
Entering the doctors office felt homely like I had been here many times before mainly because I had come here for every ache pain and cough my ma couldn't fix since I was born. I asked for Dr. Amborn, he took me in right away. "So what seems to be the matter?" "Oh I have just been feeling icky and my throat hurts so if you could check for strep that would be much a appreciated." "Of course!" he swabbed my throat, then left I sat in the back room reading over all the signs I have read a million times before waiting on the results.

When Dr. Amborn came back in I sighed with relief as I saw the smile on his face, "Your clear, go to school and say hi to Josie for me." he signed a quick note and sent me on my way.
I entered the building and I had only missed my first class. I handed my note to Josie said hi for Mr. Amborn and grabbed a note from her letting me in to my second class late. As I entered Spanish 3 I saw a single empty desk, next to Max. I almost died on the spot. I could tell there had been a wide spread of news. I was being glared and gawked at more openly than ever before. sliding into the seat I got two notes at the same time one from beside me, max and one from behind me, tyler. I opened tyler's first thinking it more important. it read "Good to see your not dieing!" I almost laughed than wrote back "lol, I'm trying to pass my Jr, year , I cant be sick T" I passed it back I opened my note from Max regretfully it read "Where were you baby? I missed you." I got really angry, I started to grind my teeth and I swore they could have heard me in china.I wrote back with a bit of humor left in me "I went to the doctor, I'm fine, but I sure as hell didn't miss you, did you think about fucking a tree when you were 'missing' me? yours never, Becca" I slyly handed the note back to him just as I got the one from Tyler back "well, good. My sister should be flying in tonight, do you want to pick her up or shall I?" "How about we both go I wan to see her but I don't want to deprive you of a chance to see her." the switch happened again and I got the note from Max, I opened it warily "ouch, honey, please I don't like it when your angry" "then fuck off!" I sent it back, but it fell to the floor when Mr. Blitz caught me passing it. The room froze. Mr. Blitz stepped forward carefully and deliberately and picked up the paper." do you mind if I read this to the class, Miss Night. I at this point was so outraged by everything I shouted at him "FINE!" then I retreated realizing that I had yelled at a teacher and said "sure, have fun." Max looked a bit concerned. Mr. Blitz surprised read the note first then decided he didnt want to read it to the class. Max beamed. I glared. "Miss Night, Mr. Farmington, after class." I spent the rest of class memorizing Spanish prepositions.

The bell rang and I didn't even collect my stuff. I was doomed to sit in that class room until we figured something out, but it wasn't going to be as easy as with the principal. "Max, Becca, I sense some tension between, you two . . . mainly coming from Becca, but I heard that you had asked him to prom? what is this about?" "Mr. Blitz lets put this bluntly, he hates me I hate him , he is trying to make me look like the bad guy in front of all my peers, ok are we done here?" "Aw, baby, I didn't realize you . . ." YOU DAMN WELL DID YOU SON OF A -" Max covered my mouth as I screamed a string of profanitys into it and then decidedly bit his hand, during this time third period bell rang, but Mr. Blitz had a prep period, oh joy . . ."Mr. Blitz, you see Becca simply has an anger problem and I'm working on it full time," I made to speak ,but Blitz stopped me to let Max finish. "You see she is deeply in love with me, she just doesn't realize it yet." then I was ready to burst "WHY YOU-" Mr. Blitz stopped me an said " I see you have very different views on your relationship, but word of advice, Becca, just be nice and settle down, it will be that much easier to get through the day." I took a deep breath and through gritted teeth I huffed an ok. I picked up my bag and with a pass from Mr. Blitz and Max's arm around my waist I was escorted to my next class where we were rearranged seating just so he could sit next to me. I was ready to blow, but I kept my cool, I didn't want another teacher siding with Max just because that is how he "rolls".
the rest of the day went by as normal, well accept the kisses on the hand and cheek, the hugs that were frequent and always around other people and the constant waist or hand holding that I got through only by biting my tongue until it actually bled. I couldn't wait until 6th peroid, the only one without Max, that I could talk to Tyler.

I drew the line when Max attempted to give me a good-bye kiss. I was relieved terribly when I entered to see Tyler sitting in our lab waiting for me. "You don't know how happy I am to see you!" I gave Tyler a huge hug and he awkwardly patted my back, then before he could say anything the bell rang and class started.
When class was over we walked back to the apartment, like every other night, this time with the intention of leaving after dinner. as soon as the roast was out of the oven, Tyler opened his mouth and wouldn't close it "Did, the rest of your day go well? I feel bad. I really should have helped more with the whole Max thing, what did Blitz have to say? I heard you two were all over each other at school afterward, that can't be true can it? I mean you still despise the air he breathes? right? or am I just being . . ." I cut him off then "Breathe. I'm fine, Blitz made me let him hold my hand and waist in the hallway and he kissed me a couple of times, " I got red but continued "Yes, I still hate him, your still my best friend, not intrusive at all." he sighed at the same time I did and we quickly set dinner out to eat. "Once a bud, never a dud." I couldn't help but laugh. "Wow, I think that was your worst one yet!" " Yeah but it made you laugh." awkward pause "Yeah." unison sigh again. either we spent too much time together or something. I let Tyler to the dishes and I went to finish my homework. When all was said and done, we got in the car blasting the radio and singing along like every time we have to ride somewhere. I smiled bigger remembering this and the fact that I would be soon seeing my most favorite "sister" in the world!

"TERRY!" I almost knocked her over as I gave her a huge homecoming hug. "Nice to see you too, now can I breathe?" "oh, sorry" we both laughed as we turned to Tyler and he got his turn to give his sister a hug. They whispered in each others ears and I felt severely left out, but let them have their moment. "So, Terry, do you need to practice your new cosmetic skills on me?" "I thought you didn't like make-up?" "well, I'm a Junior now and there is this dance and . . ." "Oh prom, sure, Tyler you want me to help you too, I could make you guys the cutest couple there." there was a awkward pause, Tyler looked away from me and I did the same. "Oh, you two have other dates . . .Well, then I can make you guys look cute with your, um partners . . ." "Thanks." I replied sheepishly "Who all are you guys going with?" Anger started to build in me and Tyler noticed, he quickly changed the subject and got us into the car where we laughed and talked loudly over the already loud radio.
Home, and we all head straight for bed school tomorrow, Prom on Friday. Death unavoidable. I know I can be over dramatic, but Max? With me? at prom! no I will die.
Morning came too fast, Thursday morning. I think I died in my sleep, or at least I hoped I had, unluckily I woke up all limbs attached and heart beating. I smelt food and sprinted for the kitchen. I burst through the door and check on the food only to remember that Terry was here and could at least cook some compared to Tyler. I slumped to the table and asked the room at large "Do you think if I go to Dr. Amborn and ask for a sick note I could skip all of school and the prom tomorrow?" in unison Terry and Tyler answered a disappointed "no." thankfully they were on my side. I decided that I would make it through at least today, I'll demand to stay with my friends and not his that way I have the advantage.

As I stepped out of the apartment with Tyler I heard a honk. I turned top see Max in a brand new corvette, it red, about a '98, but it was gorgeous. I started openly at it, Tyler gawked equally. "I'd give you both a ride, but I only have room for one", he looked directly at me. Tyler looked away, his signal to let me go. I loved that car, I had always wanted one, but I wasn't going to accept a ride from a creepoid like him. "Oh, Tyler why don't you take the ride, I know you love cars especially ones like these, way more than me!" Tyler lit up then decided not to get his hopes up in case Max was going to be a mean person like normal, but his reply surprised the both of us, well sort of "Ok sweety, I'll take him in I'll meet you at the usual place, behind the camera," he winked. "If you want to meet me anywhere it will be with my friends, by my locker." I walked off and Tyler hopped in the car with Max and they drove to the school, beating me by about 3 minutes. both waited by my locker along with half the foot ball team, most needed advice on girls, but I didn't mind. I was laughing and talking with everyone, even Max. It didn't seem so weird or awkward when he held my waist or hand, I almost didn't realize it when he did. I got through the day, fine it made me happy feel fine, Tyler seemed to be fine to, until Max invited himself over to our apartment after school for dinner and I was so mindlessly there that I said sure. 6th period came and I beat myself up for it, now he had a chance to ask for me to ride in the beautiful corvette, that I despised ad loved so much. Tyler kept rubbing my back saying "It'll be fine. no worries. It'll be fine"honestly I thought he was saying it more for his own benefit.
The car ride was home was amazing I had never felt such a smooth ride and the engine ran so well that when we got back I couldn't help but take a look under the hood.Max brought him self up close to me and put his arms around my waist and whispered in my ear as I checked out the engine "I thought you didn't like cars that much." "I lied" I said flatly "You seem to do that a lot." "Do not!" I twisted around in his arms, his face was closer that I had expected. "Are you sure?" He moved in closer. " positive." I squeaked. He made a final move and kissed me and for some involuntary reason I kissed him back. As soon as I came to my senses, which took a while, I pulled back and pushed him away. "Never, Max Farmington, will I ever like you!" I stormed towards the door and as I opened the door, I yelled back, "And you can consider your self uninvited!" I slammed the door and went to my apartment more confused than ever.

I stormed into dinner and the table was set for 4.Quickly shoving the 4th place away I sat and waited for the others to join me. "Isn't Max eating with us tonight?" Tyler looked almost pained to ask, but tried to be polite. "He'll be here tomorrow, so will Jessica." With that they both sat down and we ate, silently. Dinner passed, then homework was finished and I went to bed. Angry with Max, yet somehow, happy. I was defnitally confused and nothing would help. I tried sleeping, I tried eating, I even tried standing on my head, then I read a novel about some gorey battle and fell asleep.
In the morning I checked the calandar outside of my room, my phone and the news before I admitted that it was the night of the prom. I couldn't , I wouldn't EVER begoing with someone so . . . hmmmm I was going with Max and I'm going to try to look like a million bucks. I had to make it through the day first. oh, boy.
I walk outside and see that beautiful corvette waiting for me, Tyler avoiding getting between me and Max, had walked to school early to "Work on homework" This frustrated me because Tyler was my scape goat and he just left me. I was screwed. "Hey, sweety, hop in!" "No, I think I can walk." "Oh, common you can't still be on abo-" I had moved so fast it scared me. I went over to him put my hand over his mouth and got as close to his face as possible without toughing it and whispered with severity "You will never speak of that ev-er again. clear?" his eyes sparkled with delight as he kissed my hand, which I quickly then released, his hands slid around me binding me to him he kissed me again, and I was hopelessly lost, I didnt even feel when he lifted me into the car until his lips broke away and he started to drive. MAN! why did that happen . . .

"Shall we stay with your friends again today, or mine?" "humph" "fine then your friends it is, do you want any coffee this morning?" "humph" "Mocha Latte it is. whipped cream?" "humph" "Alright." I swore he could read my mind, but it annoyed me so that he knew so much yet so little of how I worked. I wanted to smack him. "One, mocha latte, no whipped cream, and one small regular, black as it comes." "yes sir your order will be at the next window." "So are you ready for the dance tonight?" "humph" "well, it's not my fault you punched me in the nose now is it?" "humph" "oh don't be so dense, common, say something, or this will be a long night." I searched my mind for something of consequence. I found it, something I had been waiting my whole life for, but in the heat of the "moment" more like the week I had forgotten. "It's my birthday." I was shocked beyond belief, everything over the past week that I had been extremely grudging against I had forgotten the reason that I had punched max in the first place:
"Hey, Becca did you hear?" "what?" "Max used his 'influence' again." "Ok so what event did he organize to kill my life now?" "he rescheduled prom to your birthday!" "He WHAT!?!?!" "Becca, I know it looks bad, but I could be a good thing, just stay away from him, he is bad news." "I'm going to KILL him!" then I waited until lunch to attack.
"Really?" the slime ball asked with fake surprise. "Yes really, you, you, ugh! your the reason that I couldn't have a birthday dinner at home like normal." "Well, this is the first year you and Tyler are living alone isn't it? There is no family to go home to." I looked down, "Tyler and Terry are my family." realizing how true that statement was I lost all anger. "Well, here thought I'd get you a present." he handed me a small box and my coffee. I put the coffee in the cup holder, it was always to hot right away anyways. I pulled a piece of ribbon that was sticking out and the bow came undone. Pulling off the top I saw the most beautiful bracelet, silver with aquamarine stones set in. "Wow, I, wow, thank you" I put on the bracelet and it began to glow, we were parked in the school parking lot by this point and we both started in amazement. "You're a witch!" He smiled hugely "Well that was rude." "No, no, I mean you are magical! you actually are a witch!" I laughed "yeah your funny, anyway look the battery is already dieing, and we need to get to class." the glow had faded and we slipped into class a minute late, but Max used his "influence" and got both of us out of a tarty.

I got away with coffee in class, to my pure amazement. Although, I know I wasn't completely off the hook from the still looming glares and whispering. Though, it was less than it was before seeing as Tyler had done the curtsy of spreading the rumor that I hated max and that I would like to rip off his face . . . ok so that wasn't really as rumor, but you know what I mean. I stood up at the end of first hour and zipped out the door before max could catch me and I slid into my seat in front of Tyler. "Hey, I heard a rumor that . . . Tyler . . . hey! Tyler!" He was ignoring me and I knew he wasn't actually reading the book because it was upside-down, so I snatched it from his hand. "Hey!" "You weren't reading it anyway!" "Was so!" "Liar! why are you avoiding me!" "I don't know why don't you ask your boyfriend?" I dropped the book, he knew he had hit a nerve and won. I turned around as max entered the room and I must have had a sour expression on my face because his smirk lightened a little and grabbed my hand "Oh, babe, what's wrong?" "Nothing." thankfully 'saved by the bell' as it is said' I got to not worry about the two boy problems next to me and focus on the rooms of the house.
Tyler was cold to me all day and Max continued to ask me what was wrong, his face getting less smirky every time he asked. I couldn't stand it and I learned nothing in chemistry class. I told Max to pick me up at 6 and I would be ready. I walked home with Max driving my speed beside me, "Common hun, you know you want to catch a ride home with me in my car." "No." I said with such lack of feeling that I could have passed for a robot. Max wouldn't stop asking until we were a foot from the apartment complex's lawn. He then jumpped from the car and stood in my path. I was still limp with lack of feeling and I stared into his eyes and saw something I never thought I would see. genuine concern. "I can't stand it!" I started to cry and I had no reason to. Max wrapped his arms around me and held me. I don't remember what happened after that.

"Say cheese!" This is about where my memory started back up. I smiled as if I was enjoying myself. Max stood holding my hand as Terry took another blinding picture. "Ow. that was bright!" "Oh, she speaks!" "Damn right I do . . . when did I put this dress on? and wow Terry that's amazing." I looked in the mirror to another girl with her hair tied up in a knot at the top of her head covered in braids and small curls coming out around the ears and face. Her skin was smooth as silk and the colors blended well across her face playing up the green eyes. he floor length emerald green dress was accentuated with diamond like objects sprinkled all over it. "Your gorgeous." Max whispered in my ear as he hung a necklace, that somehow went with the bracelet and the dress, around my neck. Terry pushed Max out of the way. "Are you ok? don't you remember the last hour and a half at all?" "Yeah, no I remember now, I was just zoning out." "Well, then," Max interjected clearly disgusted with Terry," We should be off now, its almost 6." "Alright." Terry said with reluctance. "But have her home before midnight!" "I will" Max said with a sound that he had no plan on getting me home before then. I rolled my eyes and remembered. "Where's Tyler? I wanted to apologize!" "For what, you didn't do anything wrong." "Um, well I must have done something. Tyler wouldn't just get mad at me like that. " "Well, he is already there so we will go and maybe you'll see him there." "You wont let me will you?" I stopped just outside the door. "What?" "You wont let me see Tyler will you? You think that he will just get more angry if I don't apologize right away and your hoping then that your the only person I can go to." "I - no- but - I- " Max didn't make any sense. "Don't lie." He walked back to me and put he hands on either side of my face "I promise." and he sealed it with a kiss.
I later realized that this meant nothing because he hadn't said what he promised, but I hoped that it applied to whatever I wanted it to, so I let loose a little. I smiled a lot, and sat with all the football teams dates when they acted like crazy fools on the dance floor, but I couldn't find Tyler anywhere. I finally gave up when Max grabbed my hand as a slow song came on. As his hands rested in my waist and my arms went around my neck. "Hey, we should get out of here." I realized that most people have been leaving and had a feeling it was getting late. "Ok." I held his hand as he led me from the room.

"Are you alright?" a voice came from the distance. I realized that the car had stopped and that we hadent talked since we left. "I guess." "Tyler could tell if your lying." the name hit me like a knife "Not that he would care." I snapped. There was a pause. "He would have treated you like crap just to see if you could relate." I was confused. I wanted to scream. "What do you mean relate?" "You remember when I said you were a witch?" "How could I forget?" "I can perform magic." this was too much. "what? I can't. I don't. Huh?" Max smiled. "why are you smiling?" "You didn't run. You didn't faint. Your willing to listen." "Im so confused right now." I reached for my clutch. "No, no here." He reached for my head. I moved back. "Im going to make your headache go away." I leaned in catuiously. He put hand on either side of my face and kissed my forehead. Something warm passed through my mind. Then the pain was gone. "But how?" my voice as mellow as my brain was. "I told you. Magic." "Magic? Where does it come from?" "You'll laugh at me." "No." "Your lying." "I thought you told me only Tyler could figure out if I was lying." "Yes, but this -" "Just tell me." "No laughing?" "None." "Your heart." I began to laugh then swallowed it. "so you have to be in love?" I almost busted again. "I told you, you'd laugh." Max started the car and pulled from the parking spot that had been at the apartment. "Hey! Where are you taking me?" "To someone you might believe." "But -" He turned up the radio. I never thought I would be offened by him not talking, but as we sped down the road the endless questions attacked me. Not being able to ask them was the worst part of all.

"Oh, common!" I yell as I slam off the music. "what?" Max's tone coloredd with an ounce of knowing. "I want to know where the hell your taking me that's what!" Max mumbled something inaudiable. "What?!?!" I was frustrated that this boy couldn't give it to me straight. " To Tyler." he said with what I assumed to be defeat. My voice did a 180. "Why?" he started at the road seeming to contemplate his chances of getting away with pretending to not hear me. "Because," he started slowly, "He knows, but don't blow up!" I bit my tongue as Mee
ax's eyes flicked between my face and the road. When he saw that I wouldn't get mad he continued, "I had to tell him, he isn't magical and I think he was hoping I was wrong, but I had to warn him. He said if it were true. He would leave you alone, that I could have you to myself." His eyes did the flick thing again, checking that it was ok to keep talking. "I thought you would take to this better, but it seems that Tyler is your only safe house, you may end up mortal afterall." there was a pause "WHAT!?!?!?" Max's eyes started straight at the road as it buzzed past in the moonlight. "YOU MEAN THAT YOU TELLING ME I'MMAGICAL WAS A LIE?!?!?" Max stopped the car, turned his eyes to look directly into mine, "No. I told you the truth, but there are some . . . " he searched for a good word "requirements." there was a silence again as I searched his eyes for the tell tale sign of a lie. I couldn't dig up anything and decided to look at the light source in front of me. My jaw dropped as I saw a huge beach I had never seen before. "Why would Tyler be here?" "Well, lets go -" "Why are you here?" Tylers frame appeared in the door, although it seemed more stiff and angry then before it was the same old Tyler.I jumpped from the car with lightning speed. As I ran towards Tyler his face first seemed surprised then it seemed angry and before I could make it to him he shut the door in my face. I was stunned. Max came up behind me and held me close, but I couldn't feel his arms. I was lost.

I can't remember which arm reached out, but one knocked on the door. I realized I couldn't see anything and wiped away the tears. Max seemed to disappear.No, he didn't seem to, he did. He left with the car. I was stuck on the porch of a beach house that I had neverr seen before, cold, alone and crying. When I saw the first light of dawn, I walked away from the door to the back of the house. Where the sunrise came over the ocean. I sat and marveled at the unsurpassable bueaty. How could something so simple as the sun rizing be so amazing and wonderful. "Where did Max go?" I didn't recognize the voice. " I don't know." "I'm sorry." Jessica sat next to me. "So, do you know why Tyler is mad at me." "No, but he wouldn't stop mumbling all night." I decided that a change in subject was needed. "So, what is this place?" I motioned to the beach house. "Its my parents house, they said I could have an after party, but it fell through." "Oh." there was an akward pause. "Hey, I got a plan." " I looked wearily at Jessica. "You go hide in Tylers car, I'll tell him I think you left, then he'll go home!" It took me a second to add all that together, then realized That I still had my keys in my clutch. "Thank you!" I scrambled up the sand, back to the front of the house and dived into the back seat of the car. It only took 5 minutes before the door to the car unlocked and Tyler put the keys in the ignition. He backed out of the driveway and I poped up. "Ty-" "HOLY SHIT BECCA!" the car swerved and I was thrown against a door. The car stopped. " Are you ok?" "Yeah, I'm-" Tyler looked at me in the mirror and his eyes grew huge with horror. "What?" "buckle up." Tyler stepped on the gas and sped towards town.

I woke up in a bed. In a hospital. I saw Terry first, then Jessuac, Tyler and Max, by my bed. The moment I opened my eyes Jessica rand from the room as an exhale of air followed her, like they had all been holding their breath while I was out. Terry was the first to reach me. "Oh my god! You gave me a scare! Are you alright? Hows your head feel?" As the words left her mouth I felt a pain in my head. "I -" My voice was rusty from lack of use, but the doctor came in and cut me off. "Lets not overwhelm her." Everyone left besides Tyler as if they had agreed on this before. After the Doctor took a quick history and checked my vitals he left. "Hey." "Hey." My response still had rust in it. "Im sorry." "For what?" "I would be the one who put the huge gash in your head." "No -" "Listen to me," Tyler sat on the bed and looked me straight in the eye. "To tell you the truth I love you, and I paced all day yesterday trying to find the right way to tell you that, but nothing seemed appropite, I understand if you don't feel the same way, but I just need you to understand that, though I'm pigheaded, more often than not, I do love you." Tyler kissed my forehead and walked out. Next, was Max, "Hey, I'm sorry." "Dont-" " I should have been still there, or taken you home, I just thought if he saw me just leave you there he might take pity and bring you in, I never meant for this to happen, and . . ." he sat on my bed and looked into my eyes just like Tyler, "I have never felt this way about a girl, your amazing and beautiful " I tried to protest "No, you are and I love you." He kissed my cheek and left. Jessica came in crying and sobbing apoligies for her plan, while I was still in a foggy and confused state. Finally Terry came in. "Hey, how you feeling?" My voice sounded better, but not much, "My head hurts." "Well, that could be from the huge cut in your head and all the blood you lost." "Wow. What did the doctor say when he saw it?" Terry laughed then mocked the Doctors accent, "Well, that's one scar that's going to be hard to explain to her boyfriend.," I smiled, "Ha. Yeah. Well, what happened? I don't remember anything after being in the car going towards the Hospital?"

"Well, lets start with the entrance to the hospital shall we?" Terry sat on the bed to enhance the story. "You were mumbling something that no one could understand and Tyler came in blood covered and disheveled. He looked like he had just escaped a mental hospitial. I heard him yelling for help down the hall," she moved her hand to the side of her mouth as if to make the next part of the story seprate from the rest, "I was visiting a friend, of course part of the reason I came down," she put her hand down and continued the story. "I of course came running when I recognized the voice. The doctor took you in right away and stitched you up. Jessica came in all out of breath followed by Max, I heard she called him when she saw Tyler speed off towards the city instead of the apartment. Max then started to yell at Tyler for, " she did air quotes " 'hurting you' and that he 'couldn't believe that Tyler would do that' then Tyler yelled back about 'leaving you there' and Jessica just started to cry, " Terry got really excited at this part, "Then, Tyler attacked Max. He gave hime one in the gut. Then, Max tried to hit back and Tyler tackled him. They were wrestling for 20 minutes before the 6 nurses, 2 doctors, and receptionist could get them off each other." it seemed to be the end of her story, "wow." was all I could manage. My brain was throbbing, not only from the gash, but also fron the two boys who for some reason loved me. Terry then left and I sat there thinking about how badly I needed to pee.

The doctor refused to release me, atleast until I could talk in sentances that were more than 2 or 3 words, though that was only the excuse for a while, it seemed to keep changing. Everyone came to visit me at seprate times on Sunday, well accept for Jessica, who was told not to come back until she could control her tears. She then proceeded to stick her tongue out and call the Doctor a "poopyface" before storming out like a three year-old told she couldn't have candy. I waited until she was gon before I started laughing so hard that the doctor was concerned for my well-being. Terry was first to come in, she had planned to take her friend to the chappel connected to the hospital for service so she stopped in for 5 minutes and to sneek me some much appreciated chocolate. Max came around lunch time, seeing as I didn't have a clock in the room there want a good way to keep track of time accept my food which came at 7, 12:30 and 6. "Hows the food here?" "Eh, it's food." Max threw a Latte at me "Thank you so much! You have no idea how much I have been craving one of these things!" I drank it quickly, even though it was still fairly hot. He watched me drink it and laughed. "What, I love my lattes!" "Your just cute is all." he smiled. I cringed. " ah, common, you have to admit, your just alittle cute." I rolled my eyes and tossed the Latte in the trash. "Now, why won't he let you leave? You seem perfectly fine to me." "Well, my head still hurts . . .. Hey, can't you just do that things and make it go away?" Max laughed " I can't heal you, I can make confusion leave which is what most heaches are from." "Oh." I looked how embarrassed. "Wait, how do you use magic?" "I told you it's in your heart." "How do you get to it." "think of the person you love." this made it very complex to try, because I didn't know who I loved. I only knew who loved me. So, after a few failed attempts Max said that Didn't need to strain myself anymore and left me to nap.

Tyler came after dinner. There was an akward silence and Tyler shuffled to a chair near my bed. The silence seemed to stretch on as my heart yelled at my brain to say I love you. I couldn't do it and Tyler broke the silence "so have you thought about what I said yesterday?" "I did, I do, Iam, I mean I don't know yet." the silence stretched on. "Well, you know that horror flick I wanted to see?" "Yeah, Prom Night." I cringed "Face your fears head on, seeing as that is where your face is." Tyler spread his classic, I just made up another extreamely stupid saying, smile. I laughed as he put the dvd in and climbed onto the bed next to me as we watched the movie and laughed at the poor peoples missory. Just like old times we made pointless bets on who was going to get killed when, and like old times Tyler won every single time. We laughed until our sides were ready to burst. Then the doctor came in and shooed him off with his movie and rechecked my vitals, once again concluding that I wouldn't be able to go home, so Tyler regretfully left and said he would bring my homework tomorrow. I didn't think he would be able to get my homework before Max would, but I smiled that I would get to see him tomorrow, he promised right? I waved good bye while clamping down on my tongue so he couldn't hear my heart screaming.

Of course Monday meant I was missing school, and like I thought Max got my homework before Tyler had a chance. They both showed up at about the same time. Max sat on one side of my bed and Tyler on the other. There was a silence as the books and papers on my lap got shifted. "pick one." Terry came into the room calm as night. "What?" Max and Tyler stared at me intently, "Dont be dense. I told you to pick." " I . . ." the eyes in the room seemed to press me against the wall and strangle me. Terry seemed to be more angry than before, " I told you choose! Why don't you understand, I can't tell you which one, but you must choose the right one!" Terry glared at me so I said the first thing to come to my lips "Max," everything evaporated, the feelings were less stinging. Then I realized what I had done. Max smiled stood up and kissed me as Tyler left with Terry. I began to cry. "I know it's going to be hard to forget him, but you'll be ok, lets get you out of here." Max checked me out of the hospital and I got in his car. All my stuff had been transferred to Max's car. I started running to the car and I riffled through my stuff, I knew one thing would be able to keep me sane. I found Prom Night in my music and I clutched to it as I sat in th e front seat of Max's car. I was sobbing and rocking. I let my head speak before my heart. What had I done!

Max carried me into the house and set me on the couch. He walked into the kitchen and the aroma wafted into the living room. Through bleary eyes I shuffled to the bathroom to wash up. The aroma reached out to me and brought me to the kitchen where I gave an appreciatory sniff as Max turned around. "Well, you feel better now?" "I guess." Max turned around to tend to the lasagna. "See. I told you, you'd be over Tyler in no time." that name. It tore at my heart. My heart was screaming, but my brain wouldn't listen. I was frozen. The two most major parts of my body conflicting. Max turned around and gave me a kiss as he slid the lasagna into the oven. My head won. Maybe this was meant to be. Maybe this magic thing is more important. We talked on pointless topics over dinner, including the story of why his parents were gone for 3 weeks to Paris after their almost divorce. I attempted to put the dishes in the dish eater, then gave up and let Max do it as I meandered to the couch. "So," Max said with a smirk as he came with a cup of pudding for dessert and sat on the couch with me. "You given any thought to this magic stuff?" "Yeah, ablot actually." "And?" "You have to show my how to do it." "hmm well first you have to know the requirements." "What are those?" he put his hand on my knee "First you need to know what you want to happen, so lets start easy. Lets have you light this candle." "check." "then you have to focus on some you have a magical bond with, in this case love." "Ok . . ." " now light the candle." I looked at Max's eyes and tried to light the candle. "it didn't work." "remember what I said about it coming from your heart?" "yeah." "Do that. Search your heart and you can do it.." That was his permission. I closed my eyes and thought of Tyler. The candle came as an after thought, and it lit vigorously. "You did it!" Max smiled and gave me a hug. I returned the hug only halfheartedly.

He was too oblivious, I thought as I drove down the road. It was all too easy to pick pocket him and sneek out the bathroom window. He wouldn't be long behind, but long enough to see if Tyler even still cared. I didn't want to think of the ifs, I wanted to get home. I needed to get home and find the one who I hold closest in my heart. He had to be there. I pushed the corvette faster. I slammed into the parking lot and flew up the 5 flights of stairs. I opened the apartment with my key and found no one there. I couldn't help, all my excess energy formed tears, I scrambled to find the picture I had always had in the kitches of the two of us and I found it in his room trash can. That sliced a new knife through my heart. I sobbed until I fell asleep. I let the darkness take me in an comfort me, but the darkness was disturbed by a smell. It was a smell of food. Burnt food. I snapped awake, I had only been asleep 15 minutes. I ran for the kitchen where I saw the perfectly imperfect Tyler burning macaroni. I coughed at the smoke and hit the burner off. When the smoke cleared and I saw Tylers eyes and there was nothing else.

I walked in, and there they stood. Eyes locked. I was wrong. Maybe he is better for her. When the kiss they shared sealed the deal I knew I had lost. I ducked out into the shadows. Neither of them would ever hear from me again. I would make sure of it.
